I was able to get a satisfactory rating from my designated school and host university. I have learned a lot from the cooperating teachers and hopefully they learned a lot about how we teach in the Philippines through me.
My main concern was if the students were able to learn and understand due to the language barrier. Compared to my practicum in my home country, I was not used to teaching very young learners. I mostly handled elementary students ranging from grades 1-3. During my teaching demonstrations, I made extensive use of hand gestures and nonverbal communication.
I am very thankful to be able to have this experience. I highly encourage everyone who has the means to try this program for themselves. Not only did I learn about other cultures and practices but I also learned a lot more about myself and my passion for teaching.
Improve communicating better with candidates and applicants for the program. Information is key for this program to be successful and if it does not reach the right people during urgent matters, a lot of deserving people might miss this wonderful opportunity.
